Sisters finishing the Run of the MillThe 33rd Annual Run of the Mill takes place June 30. The Run of the Mill was originally started by the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce until locally taken over in 1997. It is the longest standing event in Mill Creek.

Registration is now open for this year’s event, which is suitable for runners, joggers and walkers alike – an event for the entire family. The event takes place on Saturday, June 30, startsing at 9 a.m. on Main Street in Mill Creek Town Center. The course meanders to McCollum Park and routes participants back to Town Center along the North Creek Trail.

The 5K street race benefits local schools to support athletic programs and has raised over $400,000 in the past 13 years alone to support the Linda Baltzell Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, as well as to support local high school track, cross country, and swim teams.

The Run of the Mill is made possible by several passionate community members in Mill Creek. Steve Knox of Columbia Funding Mortgage took over managing the race 13 years ago when there was talk of no longer holding the race. Knox, the father of a collegiate track athlete, decided to step in and help keep the race alive. Eric Hruschka, track and field coach at Jackson High school, donates his time each year to set up the 5K course and Lakewood High school donates timing equipment for runners.

“We have so many amazing people donating their time to making this event happen,” said Knox. “That means we can give more money back to our local schools and programs, which is what the Run of the Mill is all about.”

Registration is currently open online at Cost is $25 for adults, $20 for students, or $35 for an adult with a child in a jogging stroller.
